About the Department:
The Department of Swasthvritta Evum Yoga focuses on preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and referral services for individuals and society. It emphasizes personal hygiene and community health through the principles of Dincharya (daily regimen), Ritucharya (seasonal regimen), Ratricharya (night regimen), balanced Ahara (diet), exercise, and lifestyle modifications.
Key areas of study include Nidra (sleep), Brahmacharya (celibacy), Sadvritta (code of conduct), mental, social, religious, and personal ethics. The department also explores Ekal Dravya (single drug formulations), Vridhha Ahara (incompatible diets), Ahara Varga (food classification), and Pathya–Apathya (wholesome/unwholesome food preparation).
Students are trained in classical Ayurvedic practices such as Brahma Muhurat Jagran (early rising), Usha Jala Pana (morning water intake), Malatyaga (healthy defecation), Sharira Chinta (self-assessment), Danta Dhavana (tooth cleansing), Jivha Nirlekhana (tongue cleaning), Kaval–Gandusha (oral hygiene), Mukha Shodhana (mouth purification), Abhyanga (oil massage), Snana (bathing), Udvartana/Udgharshana (powder massage), Anjana (collyrium), Nasya (nasal therapy), Dhoomapana (herbal smoke), Vastra Dharana (clothing), Ratna Dharana (ornaments), Upavasa (fasting), Rasayana (rejuvenation), and Vajikarana (healthy sexual conduct).
The department also integrates environmental and lifestyle factors such as Vayu (air), Bhumi (land), Jala (water), Prakasha (light), Dhwani (sound), and ventilation.
In addition, it covers National Health Programs, nutrition, epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases, disaster management, meteorology, demography, school and occupational health, family welfare, MCH, RCH, health administration, and surveys. The department plays a vital role in extension activities, IEC programs, and in fostering social responsibility among students towards themselves, society, and the environment.
Yoga and Naturopathy
The curriculum includes Asana, Pranayama, Mudra, Bandha, Shadchakra, Shatkarma (Dhauti, Vasti, Nauli, Neti, Trataka, Kapalabhati), along with classical texts such as Gheranda Samhita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Shiva Samhita, and Patanjali Yoga Sutra. Therapies include Jalachikitsa (hydrotherapy), Mritika Chikitsa (mud therapy), Surya Chikitsa (heliotherapy), Mardana (massage), fasting, magnetotherapy, chromotherapy, aromatherapy, and naturopathy.
Visits and Tours
Students undertake visits to local Ayurvedic dispensaries, PHCs, water treatment plants (WTP), biomedical waste facilities (BMW), sewage treatment plants (STP), leprosy homes, naturopathy centers, milk plants, and industrial units for practical exposure.

Mission Statement:
To improve the health of an individual, community, state, country and globe through information, education, counselling, research outreaching everyone irrespective of caste, creed, religion, sex and ability to pay through basic concepts of Ayurved.
Objectives:
1. To teach and practice healthy lifestyle as per Ayurved for the benefit of students and general public.
2. To work as a referral unit in college Hospital for Diet, Yoga, Pranayama and lifestyle consultation.
3. To practice alternative therapies like Yoga and naturopathy through clinical exposure and extension programs.
4. To popularize concepts of Ahara, Vihar, Dincharya, Ritucharya, Sadvritta for prevention of non-communicable diseases.
5. To educate mass to lead a healthy and prevent lifestyle disorders decreasing DALY, contributing development of country.

Practical Exposure:
Patients desiring advise on diet, healthy life style, lifestyle modification, Yoga, naturopathy, Pranayam visits OPD. Referred patients from other OPD's are also attended accordingly. IPD patients are also attended when referred by other department physicians. Patients assessing regular health check-up also visits OPD.
